So, I’m behind in blogging about this – but doubledot.net is now re-hosted by my new favorite web host www.dreamhost.com. I’ve wanted to make a move from globat.com for while (really because we felt the response time was slow and the account had no SSH access). Anyway, after a failed attempt to setup a new account with Bluehost (did I mention yet that I now hate mySQL?) do you want to hear the Bluehost-moving-wordpress story? Of course you do!
So, I wanted to move the site from globat.com to bluehost.com (since they were recommended on the Wordpress site) and have SSH access .. so I signed up for an account and began the import process for the blog database. So, apparently the version of mySQL server on my globat server was 4.1.X and my new account on bluehost was 4.0.X – BIG PROBLEM! So it appears that the differences between the SQL syntax of the two versions is significant – so the importing of the database was a complete failure. Thankfully, the Bluehost people were very nice – cancelled my account promptly and without a hassle and on I went in search of a new host …
So, I then asked dreamhost what version of mySQL they ran and luckily it was 4.1.X! So, using the automated installer that dreamhost provides – I installed Wordpress, imported the database and BAM! Here we are …
Anyway, relly I just wanted to say I do highly recommend dreamhost. Their tech support is fantastic and the server is very responsive. Okay – I’m outta here!
<plug> Agreed 100% And they support Ruby on Rails, ‘infinite’ mysql databases, and really inexpensive. They also make you jump higher, run longer, and smell like lilac.</plug>
Gee, so _thats_ where that smell came from ..
